Camp Taconic Summer of 2004: Recollections of Andrew Sklar
I initially met Owen through Dan Honick, who went to Calhoun with me. Then, the three of us were in the same bunk at Camp Taconic in 2003 and 2004. Owen and Dan were my closest friends at camp those summers. Our bunks were right on the soccer field so we spent a LOT of time out there playing soccer, throwing tennis balls on the roof of our bunk and wrestling with our counselors. During our 15’s summer we had a Welsh counselor named Ioan (pronounced “Yowen”), so we always had fun slurring "Yo, Owen!" and watching our counselor turn around. When we got tired out, we would come back into the bunk and play Super Mario Bros. on our Gameboys.
The camp dances were another standout moment. Owen would be tearing up the dance floor and earning the admiration of all the 14 and 15's girls, while the rest of us stood around the sidelines watching and eating chips. We teased him, but obviously were very jealous, and he knew it!
